In 1924, Wavel Buxton founded the business from a yard behind his home in Westway, Caterham and focused on small housing projects in and around Sanderstead, Purley, Coulsdon and Caterham.

W&R Buxton became a limited company in May 1945 shortly after VE Day.

In the 1970’s, David Buxton, a developer by nature took over the helm expanding and diversifying into other construction sectors including education, commerical, health and community.

Buxton Building Contractors Limited was formed as a registered company on 23 May 1988.

After a strategic evaluation of the various Buxton family businesses, a transfer of ownership took place on 26 September 2014 via an MBO.

Since then the company has continued to grow and be profitable, we are committed to raising standards of service and safety and to achieving maximum value by working in partnership with Clients, Consultants and Suppliers whist avoiding waste and damage to the environment.

We recognise that, to achieve our goals, we need to continually develop the skills of our team by investing in their personal and professional development and provide them with the best possible working conditions.

Management Team

David Norman

David started his career as an assistant site engineer with a national contractor working in the London market. Having worked his way through the ranks over the past 30 years, David's experience and development has provided him with a practical and logical working knowledge of significant construction types on varied schemes spanning modern methods of construction through to sensitive conservation.

This has provided a strong foundation for a Managing Director who provides proactive solutions to real time challenges with an enigmatic and excellent motivational management style.

When away from work David is kept busy attempting to manage three teenage children, and is called upon as unpaid chauffeur and social secretary but wouldn’t have it any other way. He also has an unhealthy interest in DIY.

Charitable Giving

Buxton believe that charitable giving is a powerful aid for driving social equality and enables the company to open a meaningful dialogue with our stakeholders about our social values, in order to achieve positive change.

We are proud to employ some of the most dedicated people who work hard to improve our communities, we celebrate those who excel both in their careers and in the communities in which they serve.
