Education

With more than 80 new build, refurbishment, and extension projects under our belt, our educational experience is extensive. Our specialist skills and knowledge have allowed us to deliver high-quality, innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective buildings suitable for the modern pupil to both public and private clients.

Our technical capacity has been demonstrated and strengthened through our diverse portfolio of projects, which includes pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, SEN schools, and further education colleges.

Our projects feature external landscaping and play areas, arts, sports, and leisure facilities, refectories, media rooms, and libraries. Sustainability is also a key aspect of our design process to achieve the requisite BREEAM ratings.

Buxton has developed particular expertise in working within occupied educational environments, ensuring that the safety of staff and pupils remains paramount with minimal disruption to their learning.

We are flexible in our approach and listen to the needs of our end users. Buxton also involves students in the construction process by organising hard hat site tours, safety talks, and other educational activities where appropriate.

Melrose School

Architect: McBains
PQS: The Warhurst & Bourne Partnership Ltd
Structural Engineer & M&E Consultant: BDP
Contract Administrator: Cobalt Project Management Ltd

The new extension of Melrose SEN school in Mitcham for London Borough of Merton.

We delivered new facilities for primary school-age children, including new classroom space and breakout areas as well as providing a sports hall and kitchen which will also be shared with the existing secondary school.

External works have also been undertaken, with a wildlife garden, multi-use play spaces, and new car parking facilities, alongside refurbishment to existing classrooms and catering areas.

The school is on a restricted ‘live school’ site, located down a narrow side lane which is shared with two neighbouring schools.

Merton’s specialist education support schools and services have combined to form Melbury College; a partnership that includes Melrose School, supporting pupils with complex behaviour needs - Social, Emotional, and Mental Health issues (SEMH).
