Introducting Adam Gent

Hi, my name is Adam Gent, and I am thrilled to begin my career as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor with Buxton. In just two weeks, I've settled in with my team, and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The warmth, friendliness, and support from everyone in the business have made me feel at home.

Soon, I'll embark on my academic journey at Kingston University, studying Quantity Surveying at the degree level. I'll be attending classes once a week while continuing my work at Buxton. The model of "earn as you learn" resonates with me. It offers the perfect blend of academic and practical experience, setting the foundation for a robust career. Thanks to Buxton, by the age of 23, I'll have a degree, invaluable industry experience, no debt, and a rich network of professional contacts.

My introduction to Quantity Surveying came during my school's work experience program. I was placed in the finance department of a construction company. There, I observed colleagues frequently visiting sites, a facet of the job that intrigued me. This apprenticeship promises a holistic understanding of projects, right from inception to completion. My passion for maths further nudged me towards this path, as it's not only a subject I love but also pivotal in the role of a QS. Conversations with family and friends in the same profession convinced me my decision to pursue this apprenticeship was the right one.

Recently, I had the pleasure of accompanying the commercial team to the Burgess Park Sports Centre project. As the project nears its completion, this visit helped my understanding of on-site operations and expectations. I'm genuinely impressed with the project's outcome and eagerly await my involvement in my inaugural project.

The upcoming years at Buxton hold immense promise. I am eager to delve deeper into the intricacies of larger and more complex construction contracts. I'm grateful for this opportunity and excited about the journey ahead.
