Buxton delivered the new-build pavilion building at Burgess Park, forming part of a wider upgrade to the park’s sporting facilities. Our scope focused on the construction of the pavilion itself, providing a modern hub to support sporting activity within the park. The building was designed to create a strong visual presence and a welcoming entrance for users. A key architectural feature is the external cladding, formed from perforated copper panels, which give the pavilion a distinctive identity while allowing light and ventilation through the façade. Subtle sports motifs are integrated into the design, reinforcing the building’s purpose and connection to the surrounding pitches. “Burgess Park” and sports indents were cast directly into the concrete at the entrance, creating permanent, site-specific features that anchor the building to its location and clearly reference its sporting function. Buxton also delivered the full mechanical and electrical installation. This included modern heating and ventilation systems, energy-efficient lighting, and associated building services to ensure user comfort, safety, and efficient day-to-day operation. Internally, the pavilion provides modern facilities to support players, officials, and visitors, with carefully planned layouts to improve circulation and usability. The project also supported Buxton’s commitment to training and development. Adam, one of our apprentice trainees, attended his first ever site visit at Burgess Park, gaining valuable hands-on experience within a live construction environment. As part of Buxton’s Summer of Sustainability initiative, greener ways of travelling to site were encouraged. Cycling, car sharing, and alternative transport options were promoted across the team to help reduce travel-related emissions. This project demonstrates Buxton’s ability to deliver high-quality new-build facilities within public spaces, combining strong architectural detail, technical delivery, and a focus on social value and sustainability.
