Buxton delivered the construction of a new purpose-built hospital wing for Fitzpatrick Referrals, the internationally recognised specialist veterinary referral centre led by Professor Noel Fitzpatrick. Professor Fitzpatrick is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading orthopaedic and neuro veterinary surgeons, known for pioneering complex limb salvage procedures, joint replacements, and regenerative treatments. The practice attracts referrals from across the UK and overseas for cases requiring the highest level of specialist care. The project began with the demolition and site clearance of an existing single-storey barn that had been used as overflow accommodation. Buxton constructed a new two-storey hospital wing along with a two-storey link building to integrate seamlessly with the existing facility. Internally, the new wing was fitted out to a specialist clinical standard. This included the creation of fully equipped operating theatres, sterile preparation areas, and recovery spaces. Medical-wrapped doors were installed throughout critical areas to meet infection control standards, alongside specialist finishes designed for clinical environments. Dedicated X-ray and imaging rooms were formed with appropriate shielding and services to support advanced diagnostics. Mechanical and electrical systems were designed to suit theatre ventilation requirements, specialist equipment loads, and clinical performance standards. External works included new pedestrian access routes, hard and soft landscaping, and a redeveloped car park to support increased visitor and referral traffic. Works also included adapting the existing mains water supply and upgrading technology infrastructure to ensure seamless integration between the new and existing buildings, supporting patient records, imaging systems, and clinical operations. This project demonstrates Buxton’s ability to deliver complex, high-specification healthcare environments, supporting a world-leading veterinary practice through disciplined site management, technical expertise, and close collaboration with the client.
