Overview

Buxton delivered the construction of 26 new homes on under-used land immediately behind West Wickham Library, forming part of the London Borough of Bromley’s housing initiative to bring forward much-needed social and affordable housing. The development was constructed adjacent to the refurbished West Wickham Library, strategically using land that had previously served as a library car park. The site comprises a mix of housing types, including mews-style units with gardens and roof terraces as well as a more traditional apartment block with balconies, providing a varied residential offer. More than half of the 26 homes are designated as social and affordable housing, directly supporting Bromley’s housing strategy and helping meet local community needs. Working on this project involved coordination with planning authorities and stakeholders from the early stages. The scheme was brought forward in tandem with the wider library investment programme, ensuring that the residential development complemented local planning objectives and helped enable improvements to community services. Sustainability was integrated into the development. The homes incorporate photovoltaic panels to generate renewable electricity on site, alongside energy-efficient materials and systems that contribute to reduced carbon emissions and lower energy bills for residents. Buxton is proud to have delivered high-quality, sustainable homes that will benefit the local community into the future. The scheme reflects an approach that balances design quality, planning requirements and environmental performance. This project demonstrates Buxton’s capability in delivering community-focused housing schemes in partnership with local authorities, combining sustainable design principles with practical construction expertise.
