Buxton delivered a commercial refurbishment and fit-out project on Cursitor Street, located in the historic core of the City of London. The building dates from the 1890s and sits within the Chancery Lane Conservation Area, recognised for its Victorian streetscape and strong legal heritage. Cursitor Street takes its name from the Cursitors’ Office, historically linked to clerks of the Court of Chancery who prepared official legal documents. The surrounding area remains closely associated with the legal profession, contributing to the character and identity of this part of the City. The works involved full strip-out and removal of existing services, the design and installation of temporary support structures, and the introduction of new structural supports. Load-bearing walls were carefully removed to reconfigure the internal layout and create flexible commercial space. A new plant deck was constructed at roof level to accommodate upgraded building services. Internally, the project included a full fit-out with new mechanical and electrical installations, a new lift, replacement shopfronts, and raised access floors to meet modern office requirements. Working within a conservation area and on narrow, restricted streets required careful logistics planning. Deliveries were tightly scheduled, access was controlled, and works were sequenced to minimise disruption to neighbouring buildings and local businesses. This project demonstrates Buxton’s ability to deliver complex commercial refurbishments within sensitive heritage environments, combining structural alteration, building services, and disciplined site management.
