Buxton delivered a complex refurbishment and shell and core data centre project at Archway House in London Docklands, transforming a former office building into a modern technical facility.
The works included heavy demolition and significant structural alterations to prepare the building for its new use. This was followed by the design and construction of the data centre shell and core, forming the backbone of the new facility. Major service diversions were required, including the relocation and upgrading of existing infrastructure to support increased power and cooling demands.
Mechanical and electrical coordination was a key element of the project. Careful planning was needed to integrate new systems while maintaining the integrity of the existing structure. External works were also undertaken to support the revised building layout and servicing strategy.
Delivering this scheme within a dense urban environment required disciplined logistics management. Access constraints, neighbouring properties, and live surrounding infrastructure meant all deliveries and works had to be carefully programmed to minimise disruption and maintain safety.
The project demonstrates Buxton’s ability to manage technically demanding refurbishment works, combining complex demolition, engineering coordination, and structured sequencing. Strong collaboration with the client and consultant team was essential to resolve challenges quickly and maintain progress on site.
This scheme highlights Buxton’s experience in adapting existing buildings for new, specialist uses, delivering high-quality shell and core projects in constrained city locations.
