New Build
Ref:
A0738
Buxton was appointed to deliver the Dacre Building at Emanuel School, a historic independent school founded in 1594 and located in Battersea, south-west London.
The project involved the demolition of an existing standalone building and construction of a new three-storey classroom block, built adjacent to a live railway line and in close proximity to other occupied school buildings.
The new facility provides additional classrooms, including specialist spaces for music and art, an art exhibition area, and a film studio, creating flexible environments to support the school’s creative curriculum.
Due to the constrained site and limited access, a tower crane was installed to facilitate material deliveries and structural installation, enabling safe and efficient construction within the tight footprint of the campus.
Works were delivered on an occupied school site, requiring detailed logistics planning, strict safeguarding controls, and close coordination with school staff. The proximity to active rail infrastructure also required careful compliance with Network Rail protocols.
This project demonstrates Buxton’s experience delivering education buildings on complex urban sites, combining new build construction with significant logistical and operational challenges.
