Eagle House in Hastings is a community-led refurbishment project in the White Rock area, delivered in partnership with Hastings Commons Neighbourhood Ventures. Buxton Building Contractors was appointed as principal contractor to carry out the sensitive renovation of this historic nineteenth-century building, expanding its role as a community and youth facility while supporting wider neighbourhood regeneration.
Originally constructed in the 1860s, Eagle House has served a range of commercial and community uses over its lifetime. More recently, the ground floor accommodated The Common Room, a community living room and youth space. The current project builds on this foundation, refurbishing and reconfiguring the building to provide enhanced facilities for youth work, learning, support services and affordable workspace, alongside income-generating space to help sustain long-term community activity.
Buxton’s works involve comprehensive internal refurbishment and upgrades to the building fabric and services, creating flexible and accessible spaces suited to a wide range of uses. The project has been carefully planned to respect the character of the existing structure while delivering a robust, practical building that meets modern standards and community needs.
Eagle House forms part of a wider, community-driven regeneration initiative in White Rock, alongside the restoration of other historic buildings and improvements to the public realm. The project contributes to the long-term provision of affordable, inclusive spaces that support young people, local organisations and residents.
Eagle House demonstrates Buxton’s experience in delivering complex refurbishment projects where community use, heritage context and social value are central to the success of the scheme.
