Refurbishment

Buxton were proud to deliver their first defence project in partnership with Babcock International, working on behalf of the Ministry of Defence at Gibraltar Barracks in Minley, Hampshire, home to the Royal School of Military Engineers. The project involved the refurbishment of an existing welfare block, providing upgraded facilities to support personnel on site. Works included asbestos removal, full mechanical and electrical upgrades, and the creation of a new social area incorporating a bar to improve welfare provision. Additional works comprised door replacements, full internal redecoration, and the installation of new floor finishes throughout the building. The scheme was delivered within a live military environment operating under an exceptionally high level of security. Enhanced access controls, strict clearance procedures, and tightly managed movements for operatives and materials were in place at all times. Close coordination with base personnel and the client team was essential to ensure all activities complied with military protocols while maintaining programme. This project formed an important milestone for Buxton in the defence sector and demonstrates our ability to deliver complex refurbishment works within highly secure, operational environments. It required careful planning, strong stakeholder collaboration, and a disciplined approach to site management to achieve a successful outcome.
