Refurbishment

Buxton delivered refurbishment and conservation works at Hainault Ancient Forest, helping transform the site into a more accessible and vibrant destination for visitors. The works included the creation of a new visitor centre, the refurbishment of Foxburrows Barn, and the delivery of the 1856 Café, providing improved facilities for families, walkers and school groups using the forest. These buildings were carefully restored to retain their character while introducing modern services and improved layouts. A key feature of the scheme is the Craft Courtyard, now home to local makers and small businesses. This has helped create a lively, community-focused space that supports traditional skills, creative workshops and small enterprises. Externally, the works included public realm improvements and landscaping, helping to link the buildings together and improve circulation around the site. The project has helped establish Hainault Forest as a welcoming visitor destination, supporting education, leisure and community activity while respecting the historic woodland setting. This scheme demonstrates Buxton’s experience delivering heritage-led community projects, combining sensitive refurbishment with practical modern use.
