New Build

Buxton delivered the rebuild and conversion of Hatchford Manor, a Grade II listed country house near Cobham in Surrey. The manor sits within the historic Hatchford Park estate, an area recorded from the 17th century and later developed into a Victorian country estate set within formal parkland.
Following a significant fire, the building had been reduced to a two-storey shell. The project retained the original façade while the interior was comprehensively rebuilt to secure the long-term future of the property.
Works included installation of Bison precast concrete floors and staircases and full reconstruction of floor levels, providing a robust structural framework. Internally, Buxton carried out fibrous plastering, high-quality joinery, and construction of a grand staircase and decorative panelling, reinstating period features in keeping with the building’s Victorian character.
The scheme delivered thirteen apartments, with period detailing reinstated to plasterwork, joinery, brickwork and glazing.
Extensive external repairs were undertaken, including re-roofing with Dreadnought clay tiles, selected to replicate the original Victorian roof finish. Handmade bricks were also used where rebuilding was required.
The project was recognised with an Elmbridge Borough Council Conservation Award, acknowledging the quality and sensitivity of the restoration.
This scheme demonstrates Buxton’s experience in complex heritage reconstruction, combining structural rebuilding with conservation-led detailing on a historically significant estate.
