43–47 Mecklenburgh Square is a live refurbishment project in Bloomsbury, London. Buxton Building Contractors is delivering the upgrade and reconfiguration of a historic terrace of buildings within a sensitive conservation area, transforming under-used space into high-quality residential accommodation while improving the building’s overall performance.
The works involve internal refurbishment and reconfiguration, upgrades to building services, and repairs to key structural and envelope elements. Delivery requires careful planning and coordination due to the constrained central London location, neighbouring occupied properties and the historic setting of Mecklenburgh Square. Site logistics, access and protection measures are being managed throughout to minimise disruption and maintain safe working conditions.
The project has already achieved a full 45 out of 45 score under the Considerate Constructors Scheme, reflecting the team’s approach to safety, environmental management, workforce welfare and engagement with neighbours and stakeholders. This recognition highlights the standards being maintained while the site remains active.
Alongside the construction works, Buxton is delivering social value initiatives linked to the project. These include supporting future talent through work experience placements, providing students with practical exposure to construction, health and safety and project delivery in a live site environment.
Mecklenburgh Square demonstrates Buxton’s experience in managing live refurbishment projects in central London, combining technical delivery, considerate site practices and meaningful community and skills engagement while works continue on site.
