Newhaven Health Hub is the refurbishment and extension of existing buildings within Newhaven Square, delivering a new integrated health and wellbeing facility for the town. Buxton Building Contractors is delivering the works as part of Lewes District Council’s wider regeneration of the town centre, bringing together healthcare, leisure and community services within a single hub. The project involves the comprehensive refurbishment of the former Co-op building and adjoining units, alongside structural alterations and extensions to create modern clinical accommodation. Works include significant structural intervention, with removal of the existing roof marking a key milestone, followed by the introduction of new structural elements and a renewed building envelope to support the hub’s long-term use. Once complete, the facility will provide new premises for local GP practices, including Quayside Medical Practice and Chapel Street Surgery, alongside a pharmacy and improved patient facilities. The scheme also integrates with the adjacent Seahaven Swim and Fitness Centre, supporting a joined-up approach to health, fitness and wellbeing through shared access and upgraded facilities. Delivery requires careful coordination between retained structure and new construction elements, as well as close collaboration with the client team and stakeholders to manage interfaces between health, leisure and public areas. Works are being sequenced to maintain quality, programme and safety within a busy town centre environment.
