Buxton Building Contractors were appointed by our client Prime Place to deliver the conversion of a prominent office building at Tubs Hill, Sevenoaks, into high-quality residential accommodation. The scheme transformed a pair of linked eight-storey office towers into 95 contemporary apartments, giving new life to a tired commercial asset in a highly visible town centre location adjacent to the mainline railway station.
The project involved a comprehensive strip-out and reconfiguration of the internal layouts to create modern homes that meet current residential standards. Externally, the existing façade was completely removed and replaced with new brickwork and aluminium cladding, incorporating high-performance double-glazed aluminium windows. This not only refreshed the appearance of the building but significantly improved thermal performance and overall energy efficiency.
Working in a busy urban environment required careful logistics planning and close coordination with neighbouring businesses, residents and the local authority. Access, deliveries and sequencing were tightly managed to maintain safety and minimise disruption throughout the works, while maintaining programme and quality standards.
During the build, Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended site to carry out a live evacuation exercise. The drill used Buxton Bear to simulate a casualty rescue, allowing emergency response procedures to be tested in real conditions and giving site teams valuable experience of working alongside the fire service. This exercise reinforced the importance of robust safety planning and emergency preparedness on live construction sites.
As part of our wider community engagement on the project, Buxton also made a donation to Porchlight, a Kent-based charity supporting people experiencing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion. Porchlight provides supported housing, outreach services and tailored assistance to help individuals and families rebuild their lives with stability and dignity. Our support reflects Buxton’s ongoing commitment to social value and to contributing positively to the communities in which we work.
The completed scheme delivers much-needed homes in a sustainable town centre location, demonstrating Buxton’s expertise in office-to-residential conversion. The project showcases our ability to adapt existing buildings through thoughtful design, strong site management and collaborative working, while embedding safety, sustainability and community support into every stage of delivery.
