Sports & Leisure

Buxton has a wealth of experience in constructing sports, leisure, and visitor attraction facilities that meet the needs of a diverse range of clients. Our extensive portfolio includes recreation grounds, sports halls, and pitches, as well as refurbishments to outdated venues, visitor centres, and tourist attractions. We have also undertaken major new build projects, including multi-sports and fitness centres. Our team understands that each project is unique and requires a tailored approach, which is why we work closely with our clients to develop precise specifications that meet their specific requirements.

At Buxton, we pride ourselves on delivering projects on time and on budget. We have a deep understanding of the challenges and complexities involved in construction projects, particularly those in the sports, leisure, and visitor attraction sectors. Our team is adept at careful planning and logistics to ensure that facilities remain operational whilst work is carried out, minimising disruption to our client's operations. We strive to provide a seamless service from the initial design concept to the final delivery of the project, ensuring that our clients are fully satisfied with the end result.

We recognise that the sports, leisure, and visitor attraction industry is constantly evolving, and we keep ourselves up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies to ensure that our clients receive the best possible service. Our team works tirelessly to incorporate sustainable and energy-efficient solutions into our projects, which not only benefits the environment but also reduces long-term operating costs. We are committed to providing high-quality facilities that promote physical activity and social engagement and enhance the overall experience of visitors.

Imperial War Museum

Employer: Trustees of IWM London
Architect: Dannatt Johnson Architects
QS: Greenway Associates

With more than 3,500 items and personal stories from over 80 countries, the Galleries continue the story started by IWM’s First World War Galleries, and explain to visitors how, only two decades later, the world was facing a second global conflict and which would claim the lives of millions of people. IWM is the first museum in the world to house dedicated Second World War Galleries and Holocaust Galleries under the same roof, examining the relationship between the Holocaust and the course and consequences of the Second World War.

Buxton worked on the base build of the galleries prior to the Fit-Out starting.

We also delivered for Imperial War Museums non-gallery spaces including creating new learning spaces. In addition, we undertook the refurbishment of several of the toilet facilities and upgraded the HVAC services to some storage areas.

The museum remained open to visitors throughout the 97 week programme and all efforts were made to minimise disruption to both visitors and back of house operational staff during the works.
