Kings College Hospital

Working within the existing hospital, the Project was to construct a new Endoscopy unit giving 4 endoscopy rooms (one including a full body X-Ray machine), decontamination unit, consulting rooms, recovery wards, plus associated patient and staff areas.

Carrying out structural alterations and extending the building whilst the floors above still housed laboratories and working next to the Pharmacy, meant that certain elements and areas of the work had to be completed outside normal working hours and in close consultation with the various hospital departments.

Working around the existing services running through the building proved challenging, the new services being extensive as would be expected in a hospital. Weekly co-ordination meetings ensured that everything fitted in to give the necessary space needed for the endoscopy procedures.

The unit opened for business a week after it was handed over, allowing the urgent redevelopment of the existing Endoscopy unit to commence.
