Buxton appointed to deliver visitor infrastructure works at Scotney Castle

We're pleased to have started work on site at Scotney Castle for the National Trust, delivering the new visitor car park and associated infrastructure works.
The works form part of the wider Reconnecting Scotney project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The initiative aims to restore historic features of the estate, improve access across the site and reconnect visitors with the surrounding landscape.
Buxton's phase of the project focuses on the creation of a new year-round visitor car park, together with associated footpaths, drainage and landscape works. The infrastructure improvements will support the wider transformation of the estate, which includes plans to reinstate the historic orchard within the Walled Garden once the existing car park is removed.
Designed to sit carefully within the parkland setting, the scheme will be delivered with close attention to the historic landscape and its environmental sensitivities. The project has been informed by ecological, arboricultural and archaeological studies to ensure that the estate's habitats, veteran trees and heritage features are carefully protected throughout the works.
Buxton is working alongside the consultant team, including landscape architects HTA Design LLP and quantity surveyors Woodley Coles LLP, to deliver this first phase of improvements.
The estate will remain open to visitors throughout the works, with careful planning and coordination ensuring that access can continue safely while the improvements are carried out.
This project continues Buxton's experience of delivering construction projects within sensitive historic environments and nationally important landscapes.
