Over the past few weeks, our Grove site team has had the pleasure of welcoming 30 plumbing and construction students from Sutton District Training for a series of site tours. The students, currently studying for their Level 1 qualifications, were given the opportunity to experience life on a live construction site; a valuable step in bridging classroom learning with real-world application.

Led by John Foley and the Grove, Carshalton site team, the visits provided an engaging, hands-on look at the different stages of the build, health and safety practices, and the teamwork required to deliver a high-quality project. The students were encouraged to ask questions and gain insight into what a career in construction truly involves.

Buxton's Social Value Manager, Jamie Clancy-Toomey, who shared her own journey as an apprentice in the industry and spoke passionately about the many pathways available within construction. Her story resonated strongly with the group, helping them see that there’s a place for everyone in this industry.

Visits like these are crucial; not only for students to see their learning come to life, but also for the industry as a whole. With the current skills gap widening and more young people at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), it’s vital that we continue to work collaboratively with local stakeholders, colleges, and training providers to inspire and support the next generation.

A huge thank you to John Foley and the entire Grove, Carshalton site team for their ongoing commitment to engaging young people and showcasing the rewarding careers construction has to offer.

At Buxton, we’re not just building homes; we’re building futures.
