Work is continuing to progress in Newhaven as Buxton Building Contractors supports the delivery of the wider Newhaven Health Hub project while beginning refurbishment works at Seahaven Swim and Fitness Centre.

The Seahaven centre, located on Chapel Street in the heart of Newhaven, is a well-used local leisure facility offering a 25-metre swimming pool, a teaching pool, a gym and exercise classes serving the surrounding community. As part of the wider regeneration of Newhaven Square, the building is now undergoing a significant programme of refurbishment and remodelling that will link leisure, healthcare and community services more closely together.

The improvement works form part of the Newhaven Health Hub initiative, which will bring together primary healthcare facilities alongside upgraded leisure provision. The wider scheme includes the refurbishment of nearby buildings to create modern premises for Quayside Medical Practice and Chapel Street Surgery, alongside a new pharmacy and a dedicated creative hub.

The extension and refurbishment of the leisure centre element will deliver a number of upgrades designed to modernise the facility and improve the visitor experience. These include a new shared entrance with Quayside Medical Practice, a redesigned reception area, a new enlarged gym, two new studio spaces and improved changing and shower facilities.

A new internal link corridor will connect the existing Seahaven Swim and Fitness Centre to incorporate it within the Health Hub, helping to create a more integrated environment where fitness, wellbeing and healthcare services can operate better together.

To allow the main construction works to proceed safely, Seahaven Swim and Fitness Centre is currently closed, with full reopening of the completed facilities expected in autumn 2026.

For Buxton, the Seahaven refurbishment builds on its ongoing involvement in the Newhaven Health Hub project and reflects a shared ambition to strengthen community infrastructure in the town. When complete, the development will provide modern leisure and healthcare facilities designed to support healthier lifestyles and improved access to services for residents across Newhaven and the wider Lewes district.
