This week, Jamie Clancy-Toomey from Buxton Building Contractors visited Carshalton College – South Thames Colleges Group to deliver an engaging in-class session to students studying Bricklaying, Multi-Skills, Carpentry, and Plumbing.
The session aimed to inspire students about the wide range of career opportunities within the construction industry and to highlight the pathways available to help them get started. Jamie shared insights into Buxton’s history, our flagship projects, and how we’re helping to build not only structures but also the future workforce that will shape our industry.
Students learned about:
The different career pathways available in construction; from trade roles to professional and management routes.
The value of apprenticeships as a route into long-term employment and skills development.
The importance of work experience and how gaining practical site exposure helps bridge the gap between education and employment.
The session was a fantastic opportunity to connect with young people eager to start their careers and to demonstrate Buxton’s ongoing commitment to supporting education, skills development, and the next generation of construction professionals.
We’d like to thank Carshalton College and the South Thames Colleges Group for welcoming us, and we look forward to continuing to work together to create opportunities that help students thrive in the world of construction.
