Stanmer Park - Completed

Buxton is delighted to have restored the historic landscape and grade II listed bothies at Stanmer Park, creating 'One Garden' for the residents of Brighton & Hove.

As you enter the park we have built a refreshment kiosk, toilets, orientation point, and a bike hire station, in addition we extended and improved one of the existing car parks to the southern boundary.

A new pedestrian/cycle path to the west of the main drive was constructed leading up to Stanmer House as well as new signage throughout the park.

Within the walled garden of Grade I listed 18th century Palladian mansion, we created ’One Garden’ an innovative, sustainable food and plant growing hub for Plumpton College.

We restored the historic walls by re-pointing with traditional lime mortar and replacing a number of the hand made 9” half moon coping bricks.

We refurbished the gates, and other historic features and re-purposed the existing perimeter bothies (gardeners buildings) into exciting new learning spaces.

We then built a brand new café extension as well as a new shop and plant sales centre, from a re-positioned greenhouse.

Finally a new car park and access road was built in the ‘Patch-way‘ providing additional capacity in order to support the ’One Garden’ project.

The £5.1m scheme was part-funded by the Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery Fund and was match-funded by Brighton & Hove City Council, Plumpton College, and the South Downs National Park Authority.
