Buxton Building Contractors Limited is proud to have been appointed by the London Borough of Newham to transform the historic Lady Helen Seymour House into a state-of-the-art supported accommodation and assessment centre for rough sleepers.

This project, which we secured through the trusted Procure Partnerships Framework, marks a significant milestone in addressing homelessness within the borough.

The facility, formerly a Victorian maternity hospital acquired from housing association L&Q, will be converted into a shelter comprising 42 rooms for single adults. It will provide tailored support to help its most vulnerable residents achieve recovery and transition to independent living. Our design team will collaborate with former rough sleepers to ensure the spaces promote healing, safety, and dignity.

In addition to our construction work, Buxton will deliver social value by offering apprenticeships and employment opportunities for Newham residents. We will also engage with the local community to enhance nearby Lister Gardens as part of our commitment to fostering sustainable improvements.

Funding for the acquisition and renovation of Lady Helen Seymour House comes from a £9.3m grant provided through the Single Homeless Accommodation Programme (SHAP), managed by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Greater London Authority.

This project reflects Buxton’s dedication to delivering high-quality construction while generating meaningful social impact. We are honoured to contribute to Newham’s efforts to eradicate rough sleeping, a mission that aligns with our values and the objectives of the Procure Partnerships Framework.
