Meet Liam Boothroyde

Buxton Building Contractors is pleased to welcome Liam Boothroyde, who has joined the business as a Trainee Site Manager.
Liam will be combining hands-on experience on our construction sites with his studies in Construction Management. We caught up with him to find out what attracted him to site management, what he is looking forward to learning and where he hopes his career will take him.
What apprenticeship and role have you joined Buxton Building Contractors to undertake?
I have joined Buxton Building Contractors as a Trainee Site Manager as part of a Site Management Apprenticeship. This role will give me the opportunity to gain practical experience on site while developing my knowledge and skills within the construction industry.
What will your day-to-day role involve?
My day-to-day role will involve helping to oversee the daily operations on site and supporting the wider site team to ensure that projects run safely and efficiently. I will also be involved in carrying out health and safety checks and learning about the different responsibilities involved in managing a construction site.
Where will you be studying, and what qualification are you working towards?
I will initially be studying Construction Management at Orpington College, working towards an HNC. Following this, I plan to progress onto a degree at the University of Greenwich to further develop my knowledge and qualifications.
What attracted you to a career in construction and to joining Buxton?
I was attracted to construction because it offers the opportunity to learn something new every day and overcome different challenges. I enjoy the practical and varied nature of the industry and the fact that no two days on site are necessarily the same.
Buxton offers me the opportunity to gain experience across real construction projects, work alongside experienced professionals and develop the practical skills and knowledge I will need as I progress in my career.
What skills or experience are you hoping to gain during your apprenticeship?
During my apprenticeship, I am hoping to gain a deeper understanding of the construction industry while developing my teamwork and coordination skills. I am looking forward to learning from experienced people on site and gaining practical knowledge that I can apply throughout my career.
What are your ambitions for your career once you complete your apprenticeship?
My ambition is to continue developing my skills and knowledge and progress through the ranks within the construction industry. Ultimately, I would like to reach a senior management position and take on greater responsibility for delivering successful projects.
What are you most looking forward to about starting your career with Buxton?
I am most looking forward to learning on the job, gaining practical experience and meeting new people. I am excited to work alongside experienced professionals, take on new challenges and build the foundations of a long-term career in construction.
We are delighted to have Liam on board and look forward to supporting him as he develops his site management skills, gains practical experience and progresses through his apprenticeship.
