New Homes for West Wickham

Buxton is delighted to have secured the development of 26 homes behind the West Wickham Library. The scheme is designed to provide affordable housing to the local community, with over 50% of the homes designated as social and affordable housing. Buxton's commitment to sustainability is evident in the development's incorporation of the latest eco-friendly features, making the homes energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable.

To reduce energy consumption and minimise the development's impact on the environment, Buxton will be installing photovoltaic cells that generate electricity from sunlight, as well as other energy-saving products and materials. These features will not only reduce the development's carbon footprint but also help to reduce energy bills for residents.

While the library extension and associated facilities are being developed separately, Buxton is pleased to support the project's overall goal of providing additional community services to the area. These will include a new event gallery, cafe, maker space, business lounge for co-working, community space for hire, and outdoor classroom. Investment in the new building will ensure its long-term sustainability, allowing the library to continue serving the community for many years to come.

Councillor Peter Morgan, Executive Councillor for Renewal and Recreation said, “We are ambitious for our libraries, which support so many aspects of our communities, including local businesses. The new facilities we are proposing would be a substantial upgrade of the existing library, with the housing element of the scheme not only making these proposals viable but also helping bring forwards much needed additional local housing.”

Overall, Buxton's development behind the library is a shining example of sustainable design and construction practices for future developments. The scheme has been granted Planning Approval, and construction is scheduled to commence in June Buxton looks forward to providing much-needed affordable housing to the local community while also supporting the West Wickham Library's mission of providing essential community services to the area.
