Buxton Building Contractors are proud to have delivered the full design and build reconstruction of 63–86 Rowe Court in Reading a project that holds deep significance for the local community following the tragic arson attack in December 2021.

The incident led to the complete loss of the original apartment block, and the site was subsequently cleared to make way for a new beginning. The redevelopment represents renewal and resilience, providing a safe and modern living environment for residents returning to the area.

Following planning approval in March 2023 and a competitive tender process, Buxton were appointed as Principal Contractor in March 2024. Construction commenced the following month and was successfully completed in October 2025, with homes now handed over to leaseholders.

The new four-storey building provides 24 high-quality apartments designed and built to meet the latest safety and accessibility standards. The structure comprises a steel frame with pre-cast concrete planks and SFS infill panels, finished with a robust masonry façade that complements the surrounding streetscape.

Works also included new drainage and utilities, hard and soft landscaping, and enhanced cycle storage, all contributing to a well-designed and sustainable development. Additional foundations were introduced to support a slightly larger footprint, ensuring a durable base for the new building.

Throughout the project, safety and compliance were at the forefront. The new homes feature a non-combustible façade, full compartmentation, and designs compliant with M4(2) accessibility and Nationally Described Space Standards.

We worked closely with the wider design and client team, including architect and Principal Designer (Building Safety Act) Wimshurst Pelleriti, and Contract Administrator and CDM Principal Designer Oander Ltd, to ensure quality, safety and collaboration at every stage.

Now complete, Rowe Court stands as an example of careful reconstruction and strong teamwork, restoring much-needed homes and confidence to a community affected by loss.
