The Canons - Progress Update

The redevelopment work to the Canons House & Grounds in Mitcham is progressing well.

Refurbishment of the Grade II* 17th Century Georgian Canons House is underway. As well as traditional trades we are carrying out specialist works such as masonry repairs, fibrous plastering, lincrusta (embossed wallcoverings), overhauling period sashes and even painting trompe l oeil windows.

The masonry and roof repairs to the 500 year dovecote are going to plan and a new cupola has been placed.

Steelwork for the new Café Extension to Madeira Hall has been erected and brickwork has begun, we will also be carrying out hard landscaping works adjacent.

This community project has been awarded monies raised by National Lottery players and awarded through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund. The house, grounds, dovecote, pond and recreation ground are owned by Merton Council, who will be undertaking the project.

The National Lottery funded project will run for two years and includes both a major capital works project and a series of events and activities focused on community engagement.
