From Apprenticeship to NVQ Level 6: Tyler Jacobs’ Journey in Construction

Tyler Jacobs has always known he wanted a career in construction. After leaving school, he attended a technical college before starting a civil engineering apprenticeship at 18. Over the next three years, he balanced work and study, building a solid foundation of technical knowledge and practical experience.

While this gave him a great start, Tyler soon realised he was drawn to a more hands-on, site-based role where he could see the impact of his work every day. He went on to take up a trainee site manager position with Galliard Homes, progressing to Assistant Site Manager while continuing his studies and achieving both his degree and NVQs.

Tyler joined Buxton Building nearly two years ago and has gone from strength to strength since. Working on a range of refurbishment projects, he’s taken on increasing responsibility and continued to develop his problem-solving and management skills in a fast-paced environment. The support from the team has played a big part in his journey, helping him quickly build confidence and knowledge, while making the NVQ process more straightforward and achievable.

Buxton Building is incredibly proud of Tyler’s recent achievement in completing his NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management. It is a fantastic milestone and a real reflection of the hard work and commitment he’s shown throughout his career so far.

With ambitions to move further up in project management, Tyler is continuing to build on his experience and take on new challenges and everyone at Buxton is looking forward to seeing what he does next
