At Buxton, we’re committed to making sure our projects deliver value far beyond the buildings themselves. As part of our social value programme at Oaks Park High School, we recently welcomed over 40 students and teachers for a behind-the-scenes tour of their new school extension currently under construction.

Across two separate visits, students were given the chance to step into the world of construction. Kitted out in PPE, they were guided around the site by Jamie Clancy-Toomey (Social Value Manager) and John Gothard (Project Manager), who shared first-hand insights into the project and what goes into delivering a scheme of this scale.

The highlight of the visits came when John spoke about his own career journey and the pathways available in construction, sparking real interest from the students – including a few who expressed ambitions to pursue careers as Quantity Surveyors.

These site tours built on earlier engagement sessions we’ve delivered in the school, helping students connect classroom learning with real-life careers. They form part of our wider commitment to creating opportunities for young people, inspiring the next generation of construction professionals, and showing that the built environment offers a diverse range of pathways.

We’re proud to be delivering more than just a new building at Oaks Park – we’re helping to inspire futures.
