Our work spans private housing, education, healthcare, conservation, leisure, community, affordable housing, and commercial sectors. Projects range from £1 million to £15 million and include both sensitive refurbishments of listed buildings and high-specification new builds.
The Role
Reporting to our Operations Managers, the Design Manager will manage and coordinate the design process to meet employer requirements and performance specifications, while ensuring compliance with budgets and company standards.
Key responsibilities include:
Reviewing employer requirements and performance specifications for accuracy, completeness, and risk Supporting the commercial team in preparing contractor’s bills of quantities for sub-contractor packages
Obtaining quotations for contractor proposal documents
Ensuring design programmes are produced and maintained, including drawing lists, schedules, approvals, and statutory requirements
Overseeing consultant appointments and ensuring they follow professional body recommendations
Reviewing lessons learned with the aftercare team to avoid recurring defects
Key Performance Indicators
Producing consultant appointments and design reports
Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory design requirements
Delivering and monitoring design programmes to achieve timely and commercially viable information
Person Specification
You will have a strong technical background, with the ability to review and understand design systems, apply technical knowledge to resolve issues, and ensure high-quality standards. Experience in managing multiple priorities, effective communication, and working collaboratively with clients, consultants, and internal teams is essential.
Essential
Relevant professional qualifications or experience in construction/design management
Strong technical knowledge and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage design programmes and deadlines
Effective communication and organisational skills
Desirable
HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent in construction or a design-related subject
Ongoing CPD in line with changes to standards and detailing
This role requires a proactive and organised individual who can work closely with others to deliver high-quality projects efficiently and effectively.
