A look back at a special day at Goodenough College
Earlier this month, the newly refurbished Georgian Houses at 43–47 Mecklenburgh Square were officially opened by The Rt Hon The Lady Mayor of London, Alderwoman Dame Susan Langley DBE.
The occasion was made particularly special by a message from His Majesty King Charles III, Patron of Goodenough College, who sent his warmest good wishes to the College community and recognised its longstanding commitment to supporting academics from around the world and fostering international understanding.
Buxton Building Contractors has completed the refurbishment of five Grade II listed Georgian townhouses, carefully bringing these important historic buildings back into use while retaining their original character.
The completed project provides accommodation for an additional 68 postgraduate students each year, supporting Goodenough College’s international academic community.
The project also achieved a perfect 45 out of 45 under the Considerate Constructors Scheme, recognising the team’s commitment to safety, environmental performance, workforce welfare and engagement with neighbours and stakeholders throughout the works.
A big thank you to our client, Goodenough College, MICA Architects, Greenwood Projects, HRW Engineers and the wider professional team for their collaboration throughout the project.
And, of course, particular thanks to our own project and site teams and our supply chain partners. Their skill and commitment were essential in delivering a complex refurbishment within this important conservation setting.
It is great to now share a few photographs from the opening and to see these historic buildings beginning their next chapter as a home for future generations of Goodenough College students.
